Decision Checklist
Ask yourself these questions before you elect:
- Which medical plan fits my expected usage and budget?
- Do I want dental and vision coverage?
- How much voluntary life insurance do I need?
- Have I named or updated my beneficiaries?
- Will I cover a spouse, children, or my full family?
- Are my preferred providers in-network?
Important Reminders
A few key things to keep in mind as you make your elections.
Open Enrollment is once per year
Your elections lock in for the entire plan year. Review carefully — you cannot change them mid-year unless you experience a qualifying life event.
Deadlines are firm
Elections submitted after the deadline will not be accepted. Failure to enroll may result in default or waived coverage.
Verify everything before you submit
Double-check dependent information, beneficiary designations, and coverage tiers on your confirmation page.
Save your confirmation
Print or download your confirmation statement from Employee Navigator and keep it for your records.
New Hires
Coverage begins the 1st of the month following 60 days of employment
If you’re a newly eligible employee, you’ll receive an email from Employee Navigator with login instructions when your benefits window opens. You must complete enrollment before your effective date — missing the window means you wait until the next Open Enrollment unless you have a qualifying life event.
Qualifying Life Events
Outside of Open Enrollment, you may only change your benefits if you experience one of these events. You must notify HR within 30 days.
30-Day Rule: You must notify ELCOC HR and submit supporting documentation within 30 days of the qualifying event. Otherwise, you must wait until the next Open Enrollment.
Enrollment Checklist
Check off each step as you go. Your progress is saved automatically so you can pick up where you left off.
